Boston Shufukai Kendo

Welcome to Shufukai Kendo - Boston's leading traditional martial arts dojo, founded in 1997 by Toshihiro Ogimura and fellow Kendo masters. For over 25 years, Shufukai has been the cornerstone of Kendo training - Japanese martial art in the greater Boston area.

Our dojo's name honors the historical "Shunpukan" Dojo established by Tesshu Yamaoka during the Edo period. We chose the Chinese character "Shu" (excellence) to represent our commitment to martial arts mastery, as symbolized in our distinctive logo.

As proud members of the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF) and All Eastern United States Kendo Federation (AEUSKF), we maintain the highest standards of martial arts instruction.

Whether you're seeking martial arts training in Boston or specifically interested in Kendo, our dojo welcomes practitioners of all levels. Contact us to begin your martial arts journey.

What is Kendo?

Kendo, the "Way of the Sword," is a traditional Japanese martial art focused on sword fighting techniques. As one of Japan's most respected martial arts, Kendo combines rigorous physical training with mental discipline, offering a complete approach to martial arts mastery. Our Boston dojo provides authentic Kendo training that develops both body and mind.
